About
Amanie Salem is a fourth-year undergraduate at UCLA majoring in Biology and minoring in global health. Amanie's deep fascination for brain health originated with her love for soccer as she saw her classmates lose opportunities due to soccer-related brain injuries. Amanie's rare condition, Duane's syndrome, and the little information known on such conditions, drove Amanie's interest in studies entailing the genetic and developmental aspects of neurophysiology with a focus on its future implications and expansion of knowledge. Through active engagement in research projects such as investigating the role of advanced imaging on the diagnosis of Traumatic Brain Injury, Amanie has contributed to the growing body of knowledge in the field, aiming to improve diagnostics, treatment modalities, and long-term care for those affected by TBI. Outside of TBI interest, Amanie works as a Medical Scribe at a Urology Clinic, enjoys archery, pottery, scuba diving, and of course continuing her passion for soccer, playing for the intramural soccer team at UCLA.
